The Center for Plant Conservation (CPC) is dedicated solely to preventing the extinction of U.S. native plants. The Center is a network of 39 leading botanic institutions. the Center operates the only coordinated national program of off-site (ex situ) conservation of rare plant material. This conservation collection ensures that material is available for restoration and recovery efforts for these species. CPC also works in research, restoration, technical assistance, education and advocacy through the efforts of the network and the national office.
This work brings together more than 18,000 common names used in Spanish to designate plants in Colombia, as well as some names in the Creole English of the Caribbean islands of San Andrés and Old Providence. It brings together the largest collection of Colombian plant common names ever documented. All names recorded for each species are presented, providing information about the name’s origin, when known, and the regions where it is applied.
