The collection is of Botanists, Collectors, those who have aided Botanical work, those for whom plants have been named, and some entomologists; since entomology and botany are often so closely connected in investigations.

The Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI), Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants, activities are centred on cultivated plants as such. The Institute does research in the fields of plant genetics, cultivation of crops, plant nutrition, soil science, plant protection and plant health.
The "Julius Kühn Archive" reflects the areas of responsibility of the Julius Kühn Institute, in particular research on the territory of the plant and stored product protection as well as the examination and approval of pesticides and plant protection equipment.
